Further down the coast is one of the most popular beaches. Bang Tao beach spans 8 km and was once a major tin mining area long before tourism became popular. Parts of Bang Tao were left as open cut mines making it very unattractive. The whole area was considered a waste land until the early eighty's. Back then, a Singaporean developer (The Wah Chang Group) had the vision to resurrect this wasteland from the perils of mining . Today, the resort is popularly known as Laguna Phuket - a listed company on the Thai exchange and considered one of the most renowned hotel and property development companies in South East Asia. |

Considered to be one of the more isolated beaches in Phuket, Naithon offers great views of mountains, valleys and the blue azure waters of the Andaman Sea. The rocky headlands offer an impressive backdrop and from the shore at either end of the beach, you can go reef snorkeling and see a variety of fish and colorful coral. At the very southern end of Naithon, there is - what's left of a smallish fishing village, a school, some bungalows and a few small restaurants. Seldom are there more than a handfull of people swimming or just "chilling-out " but if you really want solitude, backtrack down the road south keeping a sharp lookout and you should find two smaller beaches. |
